National Day of Remembrance
With September 25th, 2008, fast approaching, POMC is working with
NCVC to host the first (since the passage of H.R. 223) National Day of
Remembrance for Murder Victims. This event will center around the
very first national unveiling of POMC’s Murder Wall...Honoring Their
Memories at the nation’s Capitol in Washington, DC. Although the
Wall has traveled around the country and been displayed at every
conference, it has never been nationally unveiled.
“Since it was first established over 20 years ago, it has always been a
dream of POMC to have the Murder Wall...Honoring Their Memories
nationally unveiled at a major event in Washington, DC - an event that
would be centered solely around the Wall. I can’t believe that it is
finally going to happen,” said Nancy Ruhe, POMC’s Executive Director.
Currently, there are 26 panels of the Murder Wall…. Each panel holds
120 names, dates of birth and dates of death. When displayed, the Wall
makes a powerfully statement of the violence in our society, and of the
numbers of loved ones senselessly killed by others. Not only does it
give comfort, but also hope, because every name on it cries out silently
for awareness, prevention and justice.
If you would like to have a loved one’s name permanently mounted on
a panel prior to the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims,
and the first national unveiling of the Murder Wall... Honoring Their
Memories, contact National POMC.
If you would like a Memorial Card for your loved one, contact National
POMC at, (888) 818-7662, or POMC’s Web site by clicking here.
POMC must receive your loved one’s information no later than
September 18, 2008, to ensure its inclusion at the unveiling.
